Today in Black History: October 25, 1997 “The Million Woman March”

On today in 1997, The Million Woman March was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The march was founded by Phile Chionesu, who is a grassroots activist, human rights advocate, and Black Nationalist/Freedom Fighter. The goal of the march was to bring social, political, and economic development, and power through out the African American community. They also wanted to bring unity to women, men, and children on a global level, regardless of nationality, religion, or economic status. Some of the speakers at the march were Winnie Mandela, Maxine Waters, Sista Souljah, Had Pinkett Smith, Attallah and Illyasah Shabazz, and Dr. Dorothy Height.
