Morgan State University

On October 1, 1867, Morgan State University was founded in Baltimore, Maryland. Morgan State University, also known as MSU was first established as the Centenary Biblical Institute. MSU sole and original mission “was to train young men in ministry.” Later MSU, “broadened its mission to educate both men and women as teachers.” In 1890, Centenary Biblical Institute was renamed to Morgan College, “in honor of the Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, the first chairman of its Board of Trustees, who donated land to the college.” In 1975, Morgan State College receive legislation to become Morgan State University.
