On today in 1902, Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri. He was a poet, novelist, playwright, social activist, and columnist. Hughes is known for being one of the leaders of the Harlem Renaissance. He is also credited for being one of the innovators of the art form classified as jazz poetry. Some of Hughes most popular poems are “I, To, Sing America,” Mother to Son,” A Dream Deferred, ” and “Let America Be America Again.”
