Today in Black History: March 4, 1877 “The Birth of Garrett A. Morgan”

On today in 1877, Garrett A. Morgan was born in Paris, Kentucky. He was an inventor and community leader. His most notable inventions included a gas mask, traffic signal, and a hair-straightening preparation. In 1916, Morgan and three others used the gas mask to save workers trapped in a water intake tunnel being dug under Lake Erie after a natural gas explosion.
