Today in Black History: February 24, 1999 ” Lauryn Hill Won Five Grammy Awards”

On today in 1999, Lauryn Hill won five Grammy Awards for the material on her 1998 album The Misseducation of Lauryn Hill. This was the most a woman had received in one night. She was also the first woman to be nominated ten times in one year. Hill won for Best New Artist, Best R&B Song, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Album, and Album of the Year. She also performed at the Grammy’s that year.
