Today in Black History: February 21, 1965 “The Death of Malcolm X”

On today in 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated in New York City, New York, at the age of 39. Malcolm was preparing to give a speech for the Organization of Afro-American Unity in Manhattan’s Adubon Ballroom. Things turned left, when some one yelled “Nigger! Get your hand out my pocket”. When Malcolm X and his bodyguard attempted to resolve the altercation, a man sitting in the front row shot him once in the chest with a double-barreled sawed-off shotgun. Two other men stormed the stage and shot him several times with semi-automatic handguns. Malcolm X was pronounced dead at 3:30 pm, after he arrived at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. His assassinate occurred one week after his home was fire bombed.
