Today in Black History: February 11, 1977 “Clifford Alexander Jr. Became the First African American Secretary of the Army”

On today in 1977, Clifford Alexander Jr. became the first African American Secretary of the Army. President Jimmy Carter appointed him to the position. Alexander was chief of administration, training, operations, logistical support, and preparedness for the Department of the Army.
