Today in Black History: February 2, 1914, “The Birth of William E. Artis”

On today in 1914, William E. Artis was born in Washington, North Carolina. He was a sculptor. He was educated at Syracuse University and was a student of Augusta Savage. Artis work can be found on display at Atlanta University, the Whitney Museum, the Two Centuries of Black American Art exhibited and collected by Fisk University, Hampton University, the North Carolina Museum of Art, and private collectors.
