On today in 1985, “We Are the World” was recorded. The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones. The song was written to raise funds for United Support of Artists for Africa (USA for Africa) to help famine-relief in Ethiopia. 47 artists came together to record the song, including Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Smokey Robinson. The song was released on March 7, 1985 and raised more than $63
