Today in Black History: January 27, 1991 “Whitney Houston Sings the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV”

On today in 1991, Whitney Houston performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV. The Super Bowl was held at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The performance took place during the Gulf War. Houston’s rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” is arguably the best performance of the national anthem. A single and music video was released for the performance and the song reached the Top 20 on the US Hot 100. Whitney Houston donated all proceeds to the American Red Cross Gulf Crisis Fund.
