Today in Black History: January 22, 1931″ The Birth of Sam Cooke”

On today in 1931, Sam Cooke, was born Samuel Cooke in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was a professional singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. Cooke established 30 U.S. top 40 hits between 1957 and 1964. Some of his most popular songs are “A Change Is Gonna Come,” Cupid,” and “Wonderful World.” Same Cooke also founded a record label and a publishing company. He died December 11, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 33.
