Today in Black History: January 21, 2013 “The Second Inauguration of President Barack Obama”

On today in 2013, Barack Obama was sworn in to his second term as the 44th President of the United States. The private ceremony was held on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Blue Room of the White House. The public ceremony was held Monday, January 21, 2013. The theme of the inauguration was “Faith in America’s Future,” which was a phrase taken from Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and the completion of the Capitol dome in 1863. 2013 was the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
