Today in Black History: January 16, 1979 “The Birth of Aaliyah”

On today in 1979, Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn, New York. She was a singer, dancer, actress, and model. Aaliyah was raised in Detroit, Michigan and attended performance arts high school. She released three studio albums; Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number, One in a Million, and Aaliyah, which all reached multi-platinum success. Aaliyah also stared in two moves, Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned.  Aaliyah died in a fatal plane crash on August 25, 2001 at the age of 22. Her legacy will forever live on.
