On today in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The organization was formed by a group of twenty students and was led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. The sorority has over 200,000 members through out the United States, Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Canada, Japan, Germany, Korea, and Africa. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s goal is to “improve the quality of life for citizens worldwide and promoting peace.
