Amiri Baraka

Amiri Baraka, formerly known as Everett LeRoi Jones passed away yesterday at the age of 79. Baraka was a Newark, New Jersey native, best known for his controversial  poems, essays, and plays that dictated the difficult challenges African Americans faced in white America. Baraka’s material followed several themes, which focused on race and racism, sexism, passivity, the communist ideology, religion, revolting, black artistry, and the identity of a black man.
