Today in Black History: December 26, 1908 “Jack Johnson Becomes the First African American Heavyweight”

On today in 1908, Jack Johnson won the heavyweight title in boxing. He was the first African American to win this tittle. Johnson was born in Galveston, Texas and was the son of former slaves. Johnson knocked out Tommy Burns on December 26, 1908 and held on to the heavyweight title until 1915.
