Today in Black in History: November 30, 1982 “The Release of Michael Jackson’s Thriller”

On today in 1982, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album was released. Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, and Rod Temperton produced this album. The album consists of nine songs and Jackson wrote four of them. “Thriller” had seven singles and they all reached the top 10 on Billboard Hot 100. The album also spent 37 consecutive weeks at number 1 on the Billboard 200. “Thriller” was selling a million records a week at its peek. He made music videos for “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Thriller.” Michael Jackson became the first black artist to have a music video played on MTV. He won 8 Grammys and landed in the Guiness Book of World Records for the best selling album of all time. “Thriller” is still the best selling album of all times with sales of over 100 million.
