Today in Black History: Novemeber 23, 1897 “John Lee Love Patents Invention of Improved Pencil Sharpener”

On today in 1897, John Lee Love received U.S. Patent for his improved invention of the pencil sharpener. His improvement consisted of putting a pencil into the opening of the sharpener and rotated by hand. The new improvements also allowed the shavings to stay inside the sharpener. Lee wanted the sharpener to also serve as a paperweight or desk ornament. Patent #594,114
