Today in Black History: November 21, 1934 “Ella Fitzgerald wins Amateur Night at Harlem’s Apollo Theater”

On today in 1934, Ella Fitzgerld made her singing debut at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. She was only 17 years old. Ella was worried she could not hold up against all the dancers performing, so decided to sing. After a little shake up, she went on to win amateur night. The prize was $25.00.
