Today in Black History: November 11, 2009 “Darius Rucker Becomes First African American to Win a CMA for Best New Artist”

On today in 2009, Darius Rucker won the Country Music Association (CMA) New Artist of the Year award. This makes Rucker the first African American to win this award since the award was introduced in 1981. He is most known for being the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Hootie & the Blowfish.
