Today in Black History: October 27, 1924 “The Birth of Ruby Dee”

On today in 1924, Ruby Dee (Ruby Ann Wallace) was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She is an actress, playwright, poet, journalist, activist, and screenwriter. Dee is also the widow of the great Ossie Davis. Dee is best known for co-starring in “A Raisin in the Sun.” Ruby Dee has won awards, such as Emmy, Grammy, Obie, Drama Desk, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta.
