Today in Black History: October 17, 1888 “The First Owned African American Bank”

On today in 1888, the first African American bank was organized. Capital Savings Bank opened in Washington, D.C.. The bank provided capital to the growth of black businesses. Capital Savings Bank closed in 1902.
