On October 9, 1806, Baltimore Maryland native Benjamin Banneker passed away. Benjamin Banneker was a man of many titles. Banneker was an “author, scientist, mathematician, farmer, astronomer, publisher and urban planner.” Banneker is documented as being the first African American scientist. Between 1792 and 1797, Banneker published six almanacs, which featured his astronomical and tide calculations.
