Today in Black History: October 2, 1935 “Robert H. Lawrence The 1st Black Astronaut Was Born”


On October 2, 1935, Robert Henry Lawrence, the first Black astronaut was born. Lawrence became an Air Force pilot by the age of 21, and married at 22. “At the age of 30, Major Lawrence earned a Doctorate Degree in Physical Chemistry from Ohio State University.” On June 10, 1967, Robert H. Lawrence became the first black astronaut!
