Today in Black History: September 22, 1950 “Dr. Ralph Johnson Bunche Becomes First African American to Win the Nobel Peace Prize”

On today in 1950, Dr.Ralph Johnson Bunche became the first African American to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He won for his late 1940’s mediation in Palestine. Dr. Bunche was able to get the Arabs and Israelis to sign a peace agreement that ended Israel’s first war. Dr. Bunche was a political scientist and diplomat. He was also involved in the formation and administration of the United Nations.
