Today in Black History: September 15, 1963 “16TH Street Church Bombing”

The 16th Street Baptist Church, was bombed 50 years ago, on September 15, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama. Four members of the Ku Klux Klan placed a box of  dynamite under outside steps, with a timer that detonated at 10:22 a.m. Four girls, Addie Mae Collins (age 14), Denise McNair (age 11), Carole Robertson (age 14), and Cynthia Wesley (age 14) were murdered, and 22 other people were injured. After fighting for years, with some of the men dying, all of the men were finally convicted in the early 2000’s.
