Today in Black History: September 8, 1986 “Premier of the Oprah Winfrey Show”

On September 8, 1986, Oprah Winfrey became the first African American women to host a nationally syndicated talk show. The Oprah Winfrey Show, was on air from 1986 until 2011. Oprah was also the producer and the show aired in over 149 countries. She was known for having some of the most remarkable and influential guest. After 25 years of hosting her own talk show, Oprah Winfrey went on to operate her own TV network, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network).
