Today in Black History: September 6, 1960 ” Rafer Johnson Wins Gold Medal for the Decathlon”

On September 6, 1960, Rafer Johnson won a gold medal for the decathlon in the 1960 Olympics. The Olympics was held in Rome. He had previously won a silver medal in the 1956 Olympics, which was held in Melbourne. Johnson also won a gold medal in 1955 at the Pan American Games. Rafer Johnson was essential in creating the California Special Olympics. After the Olympics, Johnson turned to acting.
