Today in Black History: August 31, 1836 “Patent for Cotton Planter”

Henry Blair received  a  patent for the cotton planter on August 31, 1836. Blair was born in Glen Ross, Maryland in 1807. The cotton planter was his second invention. His first invention was the seed planter, which allowed more corn to be planted, with less time, and less labor. Blair became the second African American to receive a United States patent.
