Today in Black History: August 26, 1947 “Dan Bankhead became the first black pitcher in Major League Baseball”

Dan Bankhead became the first black pitcher in Major League Baseball on August 26, 1947. Bankhead had a great career in Negro league baseball and when he was 24 years old he signed a major league deal with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bankhead hit a home run in his first game as a major league baseball player.
