Alexander Murray Palmer Haley was born August 11, 1921. Haley was an American writer, who is best known for writing Roots: The Saga Of An American Family, and co-authoring, The Autobiography of Malcom X. Roots: The Saga Of An American Family, inspired the Emmy Award-winning 1977 television series, Roots. The book and television series told the story of Haley’s ancestors starting with, Kunta Kinte.
