Today in Black History: August 7, 1960 “Kneel-Ins”

On August 7, 1960, a group of black and white students staged “kneel-ins” to protest against segregation in Atlanta churches. The twenty-five students attended New York University, Morehouse College, Spellman College, Howard University, and Fisk University. Only two churches allowed the students to join the congregation. On August 14, the students were accepted by five churches.
