Today in Black History: August 5, 1892 “Harriet Tubman Receives Pension”


Harriet Tubman received a pension from the United States Congress on August 5, 1892. She received the pension for her work as a nurse, spy, cook, and scout for the Union Army, during The Civil War. Tubman was the only woman to successfully undertake operations in the enemy territory and the first and possibly the only women to ever lead American troops into battle. One of Harriet Tubman’s famous quotes is, ” I never ran a train off the track, and I never lost a passenger.”
