Today in Black History: August 1, 1619 “The 1st Documented African Slaves in English America”


The first history of blacks in English America began on August 1, 1619, when the first documented Africans arrived in Jamestown, Virginia. There were 20 Africans that were enslaved by the spanish and then captured by a Dutch man, who sold them to the Virginia colonists.
