Today in Black History: July 27, 1919 “The Chicago Race Riot of 1919”


The Chicago Race Riot of 1919 started on July 27, 1919, and ended August 3, 1919. Dozens of people were killed and hundreds were injured. The Chicago Race Riot was considered to be one of the worst riots during the “Red Summer”. The summer of 1919 was called “Red Summer” because there was more than three dozen cities rioting during the summer.
