Dr. Daniel Hale Williams
Today, in 1893 Daniel Hale Williams performed the worlds first successful heart surgery. The surgery was performed at Chicago’s Provident Hospital. Williams started the Provident Hospital and a training school for nurses and it was the first to have an interracial staff. The patient was James Cornish, a man who was suffering from a severe stab wound in his chest.
