One thing that no one can deny about Jay-Z is that he is an extremely smart businessman. He said it best himself, “I’m a hustler baby I sell water to a well.” Jay-Z will be releasing his 12th studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail, on July 4th. Jay-Z strategically announced the release of his upcoming album by teaming up with some of his heavy hitter producer friends, and Samsung in a three minute commercial that aired during game 5 of the NBA Finals (Miami Heat vs San Antonio Spurs).
The three-minute commercial shows Jay-Z as he collectively brainstorms with Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, Pharrell, and Rick Rubin on ideas for his upcoming album Magna Carta Holy Grail. How does Samsung tie into the equation? Well, Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail will be first accessible to Samsung Galaxy holders (Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4 and Galaxy Note II). The first million Samsung holders that download the “Magna Carta” app, will receive a free copy of Jay-Z’s upcoming album, and they will receive it on July 4th, which is three days before the assigned release date.
This is brilliant in a time in which albums are no longer selling like they use to. Jay-Z has possibly found a way to go platinum before the release of his album. According to the Wall Street Journal Samsung has purchased 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail at $5 dollars a piece.
